Statement
For 25 years I have been producing commercial art for galleries and art fairs. Recently I have found a new language and a new palette. My process of working has changed and become spontaneous and unstructured. Whereas previously tight and carefully planned, the work is now intrinsically figurative. There is more risk involved. Colours are layered, creating a more interesting and textured surface. New techniques are constantly evolving.
In using a thinking eye, such as Paul Klee, I have created for myself a new criteria deploying forms and symbols that are more organic, and a space in which mood and atmosphere are critical. I feel that my painting now imagines itself to be a playful activity, which through my participation generates itself according to a set of rules, even when those rules incorporate random processes. New conceptual ambiguities attempt to provide narrative and dramatic shape to an undeveloped and constantly changing surface.
My influences include: Matisse, Paul Klee, Chagall, Dufy, Ken Kiff, Mary Feddden, Elizabeth Blackadder and Cragie Aitchson
